Rivne Region is located in the northwestern part of Ukraine, with the city of Rivne serving as its administrative center. In the north, Rivne borders Belarus, as well as Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, Ternopil, Lviv, and Volyn Regions. It is situated at the intersection of major international transport routes (E373, E40, and E85), approximately 100 km from the border with the European Union and 250 km from Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv.
The leading sectors are electricity generation and supply, chemical, food, woodworking, machinery, furniture, construction materials, textile, and mining industries. Rivne’s industrial structure is undergoing active transformation to attract investment into innovative and high-tech sectors. Several industrial parks have already been established across the Region.
The GRDP of Rivne Region totals $2.6 billion (accounting for 1.69% of Ukraine’s GDP). The volume of foreign direct investment amounts to $538 million, with key investors including Dyckerhoff, FAPOMED, Verallia, Morgan Furniture, and BAG. Exports reach $0.5 billion, and the Region maintains trade relations with 119 countries, among them Poland, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Lithuania, France, Romania, the United States, and China.
Wood, furniture, glass products, and agricultural goods dominate exports. The Region’s industrial specialization includes mechanical engineering (machinery and equipment), beverages and food products, metalworking, chemical production, and furniture manufacturing.
Rivne is rich in natural resources such as amber, construction materials, peat, sapropel, chalk, sand, and clay.
The Region has 11 universities and 1 technical school. Leading higher education institutions include the National University of Water and Environmental Engineering, Rivne State University of the Humanities, and the National University of Ostroh Academy.
As of June 2023, the unemployment rate in the Region was 9.6% (compared to the national average of 9.9%). In August 2025, the average monthly salary in Rivne Region reached $544 (the average for Ukraine is $627). A skilled workforce and growing demand in the industrial and trade sectors characterize the local labor market.
