The Zaporizhzhia Region is located in the southeastern part of Ukraine and holds strategic importance due to its access to the Sea of Azov. The administrative center is the city of Zaporizhzhia.

The region borders Dnipropetrovsk Region to the north and northwest, Kherson Region to the west, Donetsk Region to the east, and the Sea of Azov to the south, with a coastline extending over 300 km. Currently, a significant part of the region, including the coastline, is temporarily occupied by Russian forces. However, the administrative center — the city of Zaporizhzhia — remains under Ukrainian control and serves as a major humanitarian, industrial, and energy hub.

Zaporizhzhia Region is one of Ukraine’s leading industrial centers, featuring highly developed sectors such as metallurgy, mechanical engineering, the chemical industry, and energy production. The largest enterprises include Motor Sich, Zaporizhstal, and the Dnipro Hydroelectric Power Plant. Despite its proximity to the front line, the region maintains its role as a vital industrial and logistics hub, and international partners regard it as a promising center for post-war reindustrialization and renewable energy development.

During the first nine months of 2025, the region received more than $40 million in international support directed toward infrastructure restoration, social programs, and community development. For comparison, this figure stood at $79 million in 2024, and by the end of 2025, the region is expected to attract over $100 million in investments and grants.

The region’s educational network comprises 26 higher education institutions, including the Zaporizhzhia National University, Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University, and the Zaporizhzhia State Medical and Pharmaceutical University.

As of August 2025, the average monthly salary in the region reached $597, compared to the national average of $627.
