Reconstruction of the centralized water supply and drainage systems of the Vodokanal utility company

To ensure the residents’ quality of life, comfortable living conditions, quality provision of communal services, environmental preservation, improvement of socio-economic status, and investment potential, the Korosten community requires assistance in the reconstruction of centralized water supply and sewage systems. The condition of water supply and sewage networks, a significant portion of which has been in operation since the 1960s, deteriorates every year, making the problem critical.

The following tasks are planned to be accomplished during the project implementation:

  • Reconstruction of the water distribution system by replacing outdated steel and asbestos-cement pipelines;
  • Reconstruction of the water distribution system by installing autonomous pressure zones (installation of pressure regulators and replacement of key valves), fire hydrants, and valves;
  • Implementation of sodium hypochlorite for disinfecting drinking water;
  • Implementation of monitoring and surveillance systems;
  • Renewal of laboratory equipment for chemical and bacterial laboratories of the water treatment plant;
  • Reconstruction of the “old” and “new” filtration stations (repair of sedimentation tanks and replacement of filters). Construction of the second stage of wastewater treatment plant reconstruction – construction of vertical sedimentation tanks and a system for secondary use of process/rinse water;
  • Reconstruction of sewage treatment facilities:

– Phase I – mechanical treatment – installation of a reception equalization tank, fine screening building, aeration tanks, consolidation of 2 pressure pipeline lines with aeration tanks No. 2 and No. 4;

– Phase II – biological and anaerobic treatment – reconstruction of aerator systems, mixing, primary and secondary sedimentation tanks, replacement of aerators, airlifts, methane tanks, laboratory equipment provision;

– Phase III – sludge dewatering and disposal – arrangement of centrifuge and filter press workshop, disinfection of effluents before discharge into open sources.

  • Reconstruction of the wastewater distribution system by replacing outdated ceramic, cast iron, and asbestos-cement collectors;
  • Renewal of laboratory equipment for the chemical laboratory of the wastewater treatment plant;
  • Sewerage of the private sector of the city;
  • Reconstruction of technological pipelines at all sewage treatment facilities by replacing them;
  • Reconstruction of ventilation and fine mechanical treatment systems at sewage treatment plants;
  • Dispatching, computerization, and automation of all production processes at the wastewater treatment plant:

– at sewage treatment plants – inflow-anaerobic process – operation of airlifts and aerators;

– sewage pumping stations – installation of flow meters,

– cascading pump start-up system;

– soft start-up system for electric motors;

– installation of pressure sensors.

  • Renewal of the enterprise’s motor vehicle fleet.
  • Dispatching, computerization, and automation of all production processes at the water supply plant:

– I-II-III-IV water lifts – installation of restrictors, compensators, and pressure sensors, flow meters;

– automatic redistribution of flows through the city;

– accident analysis, monitoring – pressure stabilization.

  • Arrangement of intra-block and intra-building water consumption metering for residential properties;
  • Water quality control at control points of water mains;
  • Rational use of natural resources – raw water intake from the Uzh River, their monitoring;
  • Exploration of real possibilities for network looping, pressure stabilization at nominal flows;
  • Consideration of possibilities for improving water supply conditions for both the private sector of the city and the development prospects of the city’s industrial infrastructure;
  • Cleaning of water supply sources – both the Uzh River and its small tributaries;
  • Repair of sidewalks after the completion of the reconstruction of water supply and sewage systems.
