Kyiv Oblast is located in the central and northern parts of Ukraine. The administrative centre of the region is Kyiv city, the capital of Ukraine. Kyiv region borders Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia, Cherkasy, Poltava, Chernihiv regions and Belarus. Kyiv region has Boryspil and Kyiv airports and is located 476 km from Odesa seaport.
Kyiv Oblast is administratively divided into 7 districts. There are a total of 26 cities, 30 villages and over 1000 villages.
The main branches of industry in the Kyiv region are electricity, food, chemical and petrochemical industry, machine building and metalworking, tire production, automotive industry, tobacco production, and production and distribution of electricity, gas and heating.
In 2021, Kyiv’s regional GDP was 25% of Ukraine’s GDP, and one Kyiv resident had 6 times more direct investment than the average for Ukraine.
Industry specialization: heavy industry, light and food industry and high-intensity agriculture of the grain and beet-meat-dairy sectors in the region and pharmaceuticals, information and communication technologies, and creative industries – in Kyiv.
Natural resources of the region: mineral building materials, granites, gneisses, kaolins, clays, quartz sands. There are small deposits of peat. There are sources of mineral radon water.
There are 80 universities in the Kyiv region, 77 in Kyiv; 22 technical schools in the region and 57 in Kyiv. The leading universities are Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” and National University “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy”.
The unemployment rate in Kyiv was 6.8% (average in Ukraine 9.9%) and the average salary in Kyiv was 627 USD and in Kyiv Oblast 433 USD (average in Ukraine 430 USD) in 2021.
