Water supply and drainage services in Sumy City Territorial Community are provided by the Municipal Enterprise “Miskvodokanal” of the Sumy City Council. Today, the water supply of the Sumy City Territorial Community is carried out separately from other cities and towns.

It should be noted that as a result of the decentralization reform, during 2019-2020, 20 rural settlements were added to the city of Sumy, and 4 starostynskyi districts were created, including Pishchanskyi and Stetskivskyi. To date, the water supply of residents of Verkhne Pischane is carried out with the help of 2 operating wells and a water tower. One well was built on the Buchanskiy aquifer, and the other on the Upper Cretaceous horizon. For technical reasons, further operation of wells is not possible. The main reason is the non-compliance of the water quality with the indicators of the current DenSanPin in the existing wells.

The village of Verkhne Pishchane is located near the Kursk microdistrict of the city of Sumy. The water supply of the Kursk microdistrict is provided mainly by the Topolyanskiy water intake, and partially by the Lepihivskiy water intake. But the supply of drinking water to Verkhne Pishchane from the city is impossible due to the lack of water supply and a significant difference in altitude (the village of Verkhne Pishchane is located much higher than this part of the city of Sumy).

In addition, the residential area of the Kursk microdistrict is currently being developed, which will continue in the near future, and the development of the Sumy Industrial Park is also planned. Therefore, in order to ensure a sufficient amount of drinking water for the consumers of the Kursk microdistrict and the surrounding villages, it is necessary to plan the construction of new wells in the near future.

Therefore, in order to provide drinking water to the consumers of the Kursk micro-district of the city of Sumy, Pishchanskyi and Stetskivskyi starostynkyi districts in the future, the project proposes to provide for the construction of a separate water intake in the territory of the village of Verkhne Pishchane with the construction of a new water pipeline (L- 2.5 km).

As a result of the implementation of the project, drinking water from the new water intake will be provided to 1,000 inhabitants of the village of Verkhne Pishchane, 3,500 inhabitants of the village of Stetskivka, and about 50,000 inhabitants of the Kursk microdistrict. In addition, it should be noted that in the Kursk microdistrict there are healthcare institutions, such as the regional children’s hospital and the regional clinical hospital, which serve patients from the entire Sumy region (over 30,000 residents of the Sumy region are served by these institutions annually). In addition, there are 5 main city-forming enterprises in the Kursk microdistrict, which employ about 5,000 people.

For technical reasons, further operation of the existing wells is impossible. This is due to the productivity of wells provided for during construction. That is, the wells are designed for a much smaller volume of raised water. In addition, the quality of water from existing wells does not correspond to the indicators of the current DenSanPin.

The supply of drinking water to the village from the city is also not possible due to the lack of running water and the significant difference in height. Therefore, for the water supply of residents of the village of Verkhne Pishchane, it is proposed to provide for the construction of a separate water intake on the territory of the village with the further possibility of supplying drinking water to the city of Sumy through the planned water pipeline.

Based on the results of the project, the main goal will be achieved – provision of stable and high-quality water supply services to the residents of the villages of Verkhne Pishchane, Stetskivka and Kursk microdistrict (55 thousand residents).

During the implementation of the project, it is necessary to perform:

  • Tamponage of inactive wells
  • Drilling of new wells 2 units
  • Construction of a water intake (reservoir, fences, buildings of the pumping station of the II rise,)
  • Construction of water pipelines to the city of Sumy – 2.5 km, and to the village of Stetskivka – 5.0 km.
